About Us at Crossroads Outdoors Country Store and Sport Shop
in Chestertown, New York - in the heart of the Adirondack
Mountains
The
Crossroads Country Store and
Sport Shop
in Chestertown, New York, located in the heart of the
Adirondacks, has been in business for over fifty years. It
started out as a one room general store selling everything
from bread to bullets to the local community as well as to
tourists that frequented the area. As time went on, the
business grew steadily and more space was needed. In the
early '80s, a large two story addition was built. This
allowed The Crossroads to increase its inventory and
selection. The Crossroads became a destination for hunting
and fishing supplies as well as outdoor clothing and
footwear. It developed a strong reputation for having
"everything you need." Sadly, in 1997 The Crossroads closed
its doors after the owner passed away unexpectedly. The
store sat vacant for three years.
In May of 2000 The
Crossroads reopened. Starting with an empty building and a
vision, the new owners have worked hard to take The
Crossroads to the next level by further specializing in high
quality merchandise and great customer service. They have
added many new product lines and services to their
business. The sporting goods department now includes a
complete
fly fishing shop featuring St.Croix, Diamondback,
Cortland, Climax, Loon, Hairline, Carpenter's Custom
Fly Rods, and much more. The clothing department now
includes a sweet selection of baby clothes, and continues to
do well with famous brands like Woolrich, Johnson Woolens,
Carhartt, and boots from LaCrosse and Georgia Boot. The
Crossroads has also added a beautiful selection of Christian
and Adirondack books and gifts as well as a Soft Ice Cream
Stand during the summer.
Being in the
Adirondack Park, The Crossroads
caters to outdoor sports enthusiasts. The Schroon River, a
well reputed trout stream holding Brookies, Browns, and
Rainbows, is right down the road from the shop. There are
other great fisheries within close driving distance of the
store such as Lake George, Brant Lake, and Schroon Lake,
(which has one of the best naturally reproducing landlocked
salmon populations in the State of New York) and countless
trout ponds. This has lead The Crossroads to develop a
well-stocked fishing department specializing in
fly fishing, trolling, and
spinning tackle for trout, lake trout, and salmon. They
carry many hard to find favorites such as Elmer Hinckley
Spoons, Geneva Spoons, Piseco Spoons and Spinners, G.M.
Skinner Spinners, and Lake Clear Wabblers. They also have a
great selection of flies and locally hand-tied streamers,
and all the materials needed to tie your own.
